Sunday Pick: Sir William Gillies

I greatly enjoy the sensitivity Scottish painter Sir William Gillies(1898-1973) brought to his paintings.  I don't have much to say about them, I just like looking.

I love the first one. It is way ahead of the others in some ways, don't you think? It reminds me of Elizabeth Blackadder's work , with her 'collections' of various objects collected in her travels. I have been thinking about how she must have been the first to tackle this 'collection' of things. A new sense of order in a flattened space. It's too bad she is known for her cats and flowers, her 'collections' are fascinating.
Thanks for sharing all these goodies;-)

I agree with you. The drawing is my favorite, but I do like a lot of his work. I like Elizabeth Blackadder too and can definitely see the connection.
